Education Week
Science Olympics

05/10/2012 - Many events took place at schools throughout the district to celebrate Education Week (May 7-11). Grade 7 and 8 students at Kirkland Lake District Composite School had the opportunity to participate in Science Olympics. Students competed in events such as Straw Arm, Mystery Powders, Popsicle Stick Towers, and Catapult.

Survivor Challenge
at TDSS

05/10/2012 - The Health Care class at Timiskaming District Secondary School recently took part in Emergency Management Ontario's (EMO) Survival Challenge. The survival challenge is a fun event to teach students and educators the value of emergency preparedness. It helps them better understand the key roles played by many organizations during an emergency.

Gord Zubyck Memorial Track Meet

05/10/2012 - The first-ever Gord Zubyck Memorial Track Meet was hosted by Timiskaming District Secondary School hosted on May 8th. Over 550 athletes from all over the North competed in a variety of relay events. New Liskeard Public School (pictured here) won the award for the most school spirit.

Celebrating French Canadian Culture

05/10/2012 - To mark Education Week, students at Bertha Shaw Public School celebrated the Francophone culture by enjoying a fun performance by "Les Amis Qui Dansent" – a local group of French Canadian dancers. They performed for the students and even included students and teachers in some of their dances. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to gain an appreciation of French Canadian music and dancing.
