Update on New French Immersion School to Be Built in Timmins

02/09/2010 - District School Board Ontario North East held a press conference on February 9th with Director of Education Linda Knight announcing that construction of the new $12.3 million French Immersion School in Timmins is expected to begin in May or June. The new school will replace Coronation, Flora MacDonald, and Queen Elizabeth Public Schools. Click for more information about the new school.

TH&VS Students Selected as Ambassadors for Right To Play Program

02/05/2010 - Aurora and Adrian Delaney, representing the Moose Cree First Nation, were chosen as student ambassadors for the P.L.A.Y. (Promoting Life-skills for Aboriginal Youth) program. This initiative between the Government of Ontario and the non-profit organization Right To Play will benefit their community. Click for more information about funding announcement.

Cobalt-Coleman PS Students Celebrating the Olympics

02/04/2010 - For the month of February, students at Cobalt-Coleman Public School are celebrating the Olympics with lessons and activities centred around the spirit and values of the Olympics. Flora MacDonald PS Principal Kisses Pig for Literacy Challenge

01/28/2010 - On November 6th, Flora MacDonald Principal Tanya Vincze challenged her students to collectively read 1000 books. If the goal was met, Vincze promised to kiss a 'real', 'live' pig in the gym... in front of all her students. The students met the challenge and on January 28th, a "ham-some" pot-bellied pig named Sara (from Connaught) made a special appearance at the school to receive her kiss. Click to view photos!

Welcome to Our Smoke-Free School Property

The Smoke-Free Ontario Act states that smoking or holding lit tobacco is not allowed anywhere on District School Board Ontario North East property by anyone at any time. The minimum fine is $305. This applies:

  • To students, staff, parents, visitors and rental groups
  • To vehicles parked on school property or vehicles coming onto school property
  • 24-hours a day, seven days a week
