First and foremost, I am a mother of three bright and beautiful children. Having assumed this challenging and rewarding role has influenced my goals and continues to build my character. I am also a partner in life, an employee of the DSBONE, a daughter, a sister and a student of life.

In the past, I've worked at various capacities in helping field. Most recently, I worked at the Ininew Friendship Centre as the Aboriginal Health Outreach Worker. During my time there I've had the great opportunity to work with many great elders and traditional persons. Their teachings have helped to shape my life and continue to direct my life long learning practices.

Briefly, relating to education I graduated from ESCHS in Cochrane; tried unsuccessfully, to find my place in life and finally attended Trent University. There I did one-year of Native Studies, before being called to the workforce. In 2003, I graduated from the Aboriginal Teacher's Education Program at Queen's University. With my latest graduation I have my qualifications to teach Primary-Junior Level (Native Ancestry). It would be my hope to eventually return to my post secondary education to allow me to teach at the Intermediate-Senior Level.

My Indian name is "White Wolf" and my Christian name is Gary Erland Martin. I was born in Cochrane, Ontario and spent the first part of my life in Moose River Crossing, a one hour train ride south of Moosonee. I am a band member of the Moose Cree First Nation located in the James Bay Region. I consider Timmins my home as I have lived here off and on for the last 20 years. I am a father of four beautiful daughters, the two oldest, Roxanne and Jessica have blessed me with five healthy grandchildren, and another arriving in late December. My life partner, Chantal, has also blessed me with a very smart and witty step-daughter Macy, who is three years old, and at times can be a handful. To maintain a healthy lifestyle I love to spend most of my free time outdoors hunting and fishing. Other personal interests I also enjoy include playing baseball, golf and hockey.

My current position as the Aboriginal Youth Counsellor allows me to bring a wealth of knowledge and years of experience. In my past work experiences, I have worked for Mushkegowuk Student Services for 8 years as a Social Counsellor/Recreation Worker. I provided social supports and physical activities for secondary students from the James Bay Coast. I attended post secondary studies in Social Work at Northern College in Timmins and also graduated from the Native Counsellor Training Program through the Ontario Native Counselling Association. I carry numerous training sessions on Self Esteem Issues, Suicide Prevention/Intervention, Addictions, Mental Health, and worked in a Native Residential Treatment for two and a half years. My years of working in the Aboriginal Community have allowed me to maintain relationships in all the paths I've crossed. I look forward once again to work with staff and students of District School Board Ontario North East.

As children grow, they are shaped by their experiences of home, community and school. As an Aboriginal Youth Liaison Officer for the Southern Region of District School Board Ontario North East, I am in a unique position to be a source of support in these experiences for both children and parents.

Having graduated from Loyalist, Canadore and Northern College programs, I have worn many different hats in my life. I have worked as a Secretary; Commercial Radio Station DJ; Police Officer and a Financial Controller. Now, I have chosen the path of an Aboriginal Youth Liaison Officer. I offer my assistance and friendship to all parents. Being an aboriginal woman and parent myself, I know how challenging it can be at times. I won't pretend to have all the answers, but I do know this... together we can find them.

I look forward to walking with you and your children, as we witness together, our youth striving for achievement and success!
