Highlights From February 18, 2003
|District School Board Ontario North East ratified a tentative agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, representing Custodial and Maintenance workers, at the Board meeting held on Tuesday February 18, 2003. The term of the collective agreement is September 1, 2002 to August 31, 2003. The Union will hold a ratification vote later this month.|
|No School Closures|
Following lengthy discussions, District School Board Ontario North East trustees are pleased to announce that no schools will close during the 2003/2004 school year.
Public consultations that were scheduled for the following schools are now CANCELLED:
Coronation Public School - March 3rd - Cancelled
P.A.C.E. - March 5th - Cancelled
Gwen School - February 24th - Cancelled
Swastika Public School - February 20th - Cancelled
The trustees of District School Board Ontario North East look forward to meeting with stakeholders in the future to share ideas and suggestions for improving programs and streamlining costs while continuing to give our children the very best that public education has to offer.
|Cancellation Of Out Of Country Student Trips|
|The board passed a resolution canceling all out of country student trips. Trustees felt that given the current political climate in the world, they could not sanctify out of country trips at this time.|
|Englehart And Area Child Care Centre|
At the February 4th regular board meeting the board approved, in principle, non-profit day care centres in the schools, where there is no significant cost to the Board.
At last night's board meeting, the Englehart and Area Child Care Centre gave trustees an overview of their Day Care proposal, which includes a request to house their day care in Englehart Public School. Trustees agreed to their proposal pending further discussions with the Superintendent of Business and Finance to finalize details of an agreement.
