Northern Region Accommodation Review Committee

Following community consultation, the Northern Region Accommodation Review Committee recommended to the board that a submission be made to the Ministry of Education requesting a capital approval and allocation for the construction of a JK-12 school facility in Cochrane. If approved, this would subsequently lead to the closure and disposal of G.H. Ferguson Public School and Commando Senior Public School.

Staffing Increase - Diamond Jubilee Public School

It was recommended that District School Board Ontario North East hire an additional 1.5 teachers for Diamond Jubilee Public School whose enrolment has significantly exceeded its projected numbers.

Student Exchanges Recruitment

Student exchange recruitment in the schools of District School Board Ontario North East for the International Student Exchange and the Canadian Educational Exchange Foundation will continue. As these exchange programs do not require board approval, they will not be affected by the resolution passed at the meeting of October 16, 2001 suspending board approved international travel until further notice.

Following the resignation of Vivian Bird, Education Counsellor of Constance Lake First Nation, the board approved the appointment of Hannah Bunting, Acting Chairperson for Constance Lake Education Authority, as the First Nations Representative on S.E.A.C.

Joint Transportation Liaison Committee Recommendation

Formal approval was given to Mark Hall, Chair of the J.T.L.C., to send a letter to the Minister of Education, copied to the local bus operators' association and the Ontario School Bus Association, regarding the urgent need for a new, more realistic funding formula for student transportation.
