Mark Hall, Director of Education, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.. Mr. Hall welcomed the newly elected and acclaimed Trustees to the Inaugural Meeting of District School Board Ontario North East.

ADOPTION OF AGENDA:

THAT, the agenda for the Inaugural Meeting of District School Board Ontario North East dated December 5, 2000 be approved.

PRAYER OF INVOCATION
|
|
| |
Mark Hall introduced Dr. William Ferrier, a trustee with the former Timmins Board of Education, who gave the Prayer of Invocation.
|

TRUSTEE ELECTION RESULTS
|
|
| |
Mark Hall read out the Municipal Election results received from the various municipalities.
|
|
|
ADMINISTRATION OF DECLARATION AND OATH OF OFFICE
|
|
| |
Mr. Hall introduced Justice Richard Lajoie of Timmins and called upon him to give the Declaration and Oath of Office to the trustees. Trustees read out the Declaration and Oath of Allegiance as a group and Justice Lajoie congratulated trustees individually as they came up to sign the Declaration and Oath of Office.

Juergen Leukert was elected Chair of District School Board Ontario North East.

REMARKS FROM THE CHAIR
|
|
| |
Juergen Leukert thanked Arie Van Oosten and Corinne Miller for their nomination and Nancy Pedersen for letting her name stand as Chair. Mr. Leukert, now entering his fourth year as trustee with the board and third year as Chair, gave an overview of the past year and highlighted upcoming issues facing the new board. Mr. Leukert congratulated his fellow trustees and welcomed Saunders Porter as our new trustee representing Iroquois Falls and Matheson.

REMARKS FROM THE VICE-CHAIR
|
|
| |
Saunders Porter thanked the board for showing their confidence in him by electing him as Vice-Chair. Mr. Porter stressed his mandate as trustee and vice-chair was to have the board work together in harmony and to always put the children first.

Mr. Hall invited trustees and guests to view the Director's Annual Report on the Board's website.

PRESENTATION
|
|
| |
Mark Hall introduced students from Flora MacDonald Public School in Timmins who, led by their teacher Trish Murphy played an assortment of Christmas songs on recorders, xylophones and bells to the delight of trustees, staff and guests.
