Mark Hall, Director of Education, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Hall welcomed the K.L.C.V.I. Senior Band and explained the procedure for the election of Chair and Vice-Chair of the board to those present.

THAT Gilda Mahon and Margaret Fleury be appointed as scrutineers.

ELECTION OF CHAIR:

THAT Juergen Leukert be nominated Chair of District School Board Ontario North East.
|

Nominations for the position of Chair were closed.
Juergen Leukert was elected Chair of District School Board Ontario North East by acclamation.

Remarks From The Chair
|
|
| |
Juergen Leukert thanked Arie Van Oosten and Albert Schaffer for their nomination, trustees and as well as the student band from KLCVI for being present this evening. Mr. Leukert informed those present that it will be a difficult year because the downturn in the economy and that everyone will be hit hard with cutbacks. It is his hope that this downturn it will not lead to cutting of programs or staff and informed those present that the board will do their very best to ensure that none of the schools will feel any hardship because of it.

| |
Mark Hall introduced the senior band class from Kirkland Lake Collegiate and Vocational Institute, who led by their teacher Mr. Paul Binnedyk entertained staff and trustees with a variety of musical selections. The performance was enjoyed by all present. Chair Juergen Leukert and the trustees thanked Mr. Binnedyk and the senior band class for travelling to Timmins to be a part of our Inaugural Meeting.

THAT District School Board Ontario North East enter into a partnership with Camp Bickell.

1168-01 VAN OOSTEN/JOHNSON:
|
THAT District School Board Ontario North East join the School Boards' Co-operative Inc., transfer from W.S.I.B. Schedule 1 to Schedule 2 and take advantage of all the benefits available.

1169-01 JOHNSON/VAN OOSTEN:
|
THAT a Custodial Services Quality Assurance Committee be formed. The committee would consist of the following:
- 2 Trustees - One from each region
- 3 elementary principals - one from each region
- 3 secondary principals - one from each region (one principal may be appointed to represent all three regions)
- 3 C.U.P.E. union members - from each region
- 1 Trustee (Alternate)

THAT District School Board Ontario North East form a committee consisting of the Director of Education, the Superintendent of Business, the Chair of the Board and the Trustee from Englehart to discuss, with the Englehart Council, the Municipal Complex and the property they are interested in obtaining.

THAT District School Board Ontario North East accept the offer to purchase submitted by Gary Clark Fitzgerald and Samantha Mary Fitzgerald in the amount of $15,550 and that the Superintendent of Business and Finance and Treasurer be authorized to complete the sale.

THAT application be made to the Ministry of Education to fund a JK-6 school and a 7-12 school in Kirkland Lake with a replacement for K.L.C.V.I. being the top priority.
