Celebrating December Holidays

The month of December is a month full of celebrations throughout the world. Here are some of the holiday traditions that are celebrated in December in North America.

Hanukkah

This holiday, also known as the 'Festival of Lights', is celebrated by Jewish people throughout the world. The celebration lasts for 8 days and is commemorated by the lighting of candles on a menorah. Hanukkah will take place in 2008 starting at sundown on December 21st until December 29th.

Christmas

Each year, during the month of December, millions of homes are decorated with lights and trees to celebrate Christmas. This holiday is celebrated on December 25th in many different ways around the world through various religious and secular traditions.

Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa is an African-American cultural festival celebrated between December 26th and January 1st, observed almost exclusively by African-Americans in the United States. The festival was created in 1966 to establish a holiday that would facilitate goals of building a strong family, learning about African-American history, and developing unity.
